SUMMARY:Bats: Our Backyard Buddies
DESCRIPTION:Presented by\nBrandon Burger\, Backyard Bird Shop\nwww.backyardbirdshop.com \nAre you scared by bats? They have a bad reputation that they don’t deserve. There are over 1\,200 species of bats worldwide with more than a dozen found here in Washington; five of which are likely to use a bat house if placed correctly. Without bats we would be infested with crop destroying\, disease carrying insects; many of our favorite tropical treats including mangoes\, cashews and figs\, would not exist in the quantities we know today. Those frightening ‘vampire’ bats are even helping to treat stroke victims! \nBats: Our Backyard Buddies flyer

SUMMARY:Landscaping with PNW Native Plants
DESCRIPTION:Presented by\nHannah Schrager\, Owner of Good Year Farms\nwww.goodyearfarms.com \nLandscaping with PNW Native Plants is an introductory course for those who seek to marry aesthetics and ecology. In this class we will discuss how to choose the right plant for the right place. We will learn how to examine ecological clues to determine what will grow best in your yard. The class will also cover how to create structure with native plants to produce a look and vibe you like. \nUsing native plants in your landscape creates improved habitat opportunities for wildlife and can lead to lower maintenance needs over time. This class will leave you with a better understanding of how to select native species for your space\, how to source them\, and the ecology of “backyard habitat” maintenance. Whether you are already at work propagating native plants in your space or new to the idea\, this class will offer you valuable information about what to consider in your yard and its role in our regional landscape. \nLandscaping with PNW Native Plants Flyer

SUMMARY:Not Weeds-Northwest Roadside Wildflowers
DESCRIPTION:May 20\, 2022 4:00 p.m. \nPresented by\nMark Turner\, Photographer\, Speaker\, Writer \nNorthwest roadsides can spring to life with showy wildflowers during the spring and summer. While we have a number of invasive weeds\, many of our native species also put on quite a show\, including a few that are rare or endemic like the uniquely-colored Lomatium columbianum (Columbia desert parsley) found along Hwy 14 in the Columbia Gorge. Some flowers are prominent enough to recognize at 65 mph on the freeway. Others will be found only when meandering slowly along a Forest Service byway. In this program you’ll be introduced to about 60 plants that are easily recognized from behind your windshield. \nThis month\, we are again partnering with The Camas Library for this online Zoom Webinar. SUMMARY:Bring Back the Pollinators
DESCRIPTION:December 17\, 2021 4:00 p.m.\nPresented by\nDave Kollen\, Xerces Society Ambassador \nHow can we play a role in pollinator conservation\, both in general and in our own landscapes and communities? Much has been said about pollinators and their importance in natural systems and our food system but the importance can’t be stressed enough. Let’s talk about the natural history\, threats\, conservation and especially what we can do in our own landscapes to create a more pollinator-friendly space. We’ll focus more particularly on native bees since they are by far the most important pollinator for angiosperms\, thus our food supply. By focusing on this we not only serve pollinators\, but native insects in general. Also\, for those interested in going above and beyond\, opportunities to get involved in community science activities are covered. \nThis month\, we are back partnering with The Camas Library as hosts for this online class using Zoom. \nBring Back the Pollinators Flyer
