Please let me know if you would like to attend this class to ensure proper chair set up and materials–members are always welcome.

December Class–Recap

It’s the time of year to plan for your 2025 garden and perhaps incorporating fruit trees. Our class Introduction to Fruit Tree Growing: best practices to start growing your own fruit!gave some good information for consideration.
We discussed selection, planting, caring and more. Attendees (seasoned fruit tree growers and beginners)  had lots of great questions! Thanks to One Green World for providing their fruit tree specialists who were very generous in sharing information and offering their services.

Follow-Ups from 2024
Student Garden Coordinator Program
During the fall session of the Student Garden Coordinator Program, the students and adult mentors built and placed bumblebee houses. One was placed in the NW Natives Garden–another example of a wildlife shelter/nest in the Gardens! See pic.
For more information regarding bumble bees and their houses/nesting see the attached PDF articles.
Note: We plan on continuing the Student Coordinator Program in 2025 stay tuned……
Perennial Bulb & Seed Swap

After our event this past October, we had a large quantity of seeds remaining. We are so glad so many folks collect seeds from their gardens! The seeds were offered to attendees of several of our fall classes and/or events. Thereafter we were happy to donate the extra seeds to Kalama Elementary School. We were contacted by the principal (Billina) who is also the coordinator of the School Garden. They are just starting out and said they would love to have anything we could provide though they had nothing to swap with us at this time. Billina said, “Then next year when we have a more established garden we can for sure participate!” We wish them success!

Hidden Garden Spot
Trying out a new “challenge” feature for those who frequent the gardens regularly and to encourage others to do so. See if you can recognize the spot in one of the gardens where this photo, “Robin on bird bath” (taken by Kim) was taken. See attached.
Note: Check at the end of the attached News Nuggets and Reading Material PDF to find out the answer.

Sharing……
Flyers
Always striving to best share information, our standard flyers in display boxes at the gardens are now on our website.
Booklet
With funding from a Washington Native Plant Society (WNPS) grant and with many volunteer hours from committee members (you know who you are) a longtime dream has been fulfilled.
We have created a free 52-page booklet as an educational tool that includes dozens of high-quality photos, descriptions and other information regarding native plants found at The Wildlife Botanical Gardens and reasons to incorporate them in your landscape. Here is the link to finding it on our website:

Nature Related Quote of the Month
Apropos at this time….
From Jimmy Carter: It is good to realize that if love and peace can prevail on earth, and if we can teach our children to honor nature’s gifts, the joys and beauties of the outdoors will be here forever.
